The question was simple: when you run an AI tool on your own machine, does it phone home? The Local AI Telemetry Report 2026 examined seven tools across eleven investigations, every finding backed by a reproducible test and a primary source. Thirty pages, with the dataset released under CC BY 4.0.
The second edition, the Local Agent Telemetry Report 2026, turned the same method on AI coding agents. I led the research and designed both reports, including the covers, which carry one illustration language per edition.
